Thomas Kimani first joined Walker Kontos in 2011 as an intern while pursuing his law degree at Makerere University and later as a Pupil in fulfilment of the requirements for admission to the bar.  Upon admission to the bar in the year 2013, Thomas became an Associate in the firm and later a Senior Associate and Principal Associate. He was recently admitted as a Partner in the firm's litigation department in December 2023

Thomas specialises in commercial litigation, banking litigation, debt recovery and security realisation, insurance litigation, Intellectual property disputes, employment law, family law, succession planning and litigation, personal injury (running down) claims, consumer protection as well as public law litigation in the area of judicial review.

Some of the notable disputes/transactions which Thomas has handled include:

  • Advising and acting for Arsenal Football Club PLC in a debt claim against the now collapsed Imperial Bank Ltd and KDIC as a receiver valued at GBP 475,000.00.

  • Successfully representing Mc Frys Limited, a Kenyan owned fast-food chain in a trademark registration dispute against McDonald's Corporation, an American multinational fast-food chain.

  • Acting for various financial institutions including HFC Limited, Absa Bank Kenya PLC, Bank of Africa Kenya Limited and Kingdom Bank in reported court proceedings in multi-million-dollar debt recovery matters.

  • Representing Total Kenya Limited (now Total Energies Marketing Kenya PLC), East African Breweries Limited and Kenya Breweries Limited in court proceedings in product liability suits filed by consumers, which were eventually dismissed.

  • Advising local and multi-national entities such as Solidarités International, GSM Systems-New York, City Lodge Hotel Group t/a Fairview Hotel, FH Services Kenya Ltd on legal compliance with the employment laws in Kenya and review of Internal Staff Regulations governing the conditions of employment, duties, and rights of the locally recruited employees.

  • Advising and acting for a client in cross-border divorce proceedings and distribution of matrimonial property valued at over USD 2 million.
