Having joined the firm in 2015, Wassim initially gained experience in the Dispute Resolution team before furthering his training and practice in the Corporate and Commercial department.

He stands out with a string of academic achievements, notably being honoured as the "Best final year student at the University of Nairobi – School of Law" and the "Best overall student in the College of Humanities and Social Sciences – University of Nairobi".

Furthermore, Wassim has been acknowledged by IFLR1000 as a "Rising Star" in their 2022-2023 and 2023-2024 publications.

In identifying his recent transactions, chosen for either their intrigue, intricacy or impact on the society, Wassim picks out:

  • Acting for a syndicate of IFI and DFI lenders including International Finance Corporation in connection with certain substantial loan facilities to various banks in Kenya. The facilities would enable the local banks to on-lend to green and ESG compliant sub-borrowers.

  • Assisted in advising in the formation of joint venture with a Mauritian-based company, for purposes of the construction, operation, maintenance and management of data centres in Kenya, as well as negotiating the financing documents and shareholder agreements in respect of the joint venture entity. 

  • Acting for The Standard Bank Group in the financing of certain roads to be constructed under Kenya’s Road Annuity Programme and midwifed by Kenya’s Public Private Partnership Directorate. Particularly involving work related to the negotiation of bankable direct agreements with the contracting authority and a letter of support with the Government of Kenya.

  • Acting for a client who has developed an industrial park comprising of various premium warehouses and advising on structuring and preparing the agreements for lease and substantive leases for each of the units.

  • Acting on probono basis for a charitable trust – Dada’s Nest – in their property acquisitions/conveyancing work as well as their miscellaneous legal matters.

Wassim is an active member of various committees formed by the Law Society of Kenya including the liaison committee for the Companies Registry, Collateral Registry and Lands Registry.
